What is the RICS DRS?
The Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors (RICS) Dispute Resolution Service (DRS) is the leading global provider of alternative dispute resolution services, helping resolve disputes in areas relating to land, property and construction. The RICS DRS is backed by the experience and expertise of the RICS, which has been operating in dispute resolution field for the past 30 years.
The RICS has in excess of 150,000 members globally and represents, regulates and promotes the work of property professionals throughout 146 countries. It is an independent, non-profit making organisation committed to acting in the public interest and providing impartial, authoritative advice on major issues affecting business and society.
The Oceania branch of the RICS DRS was launched in Queensland in March 2005, in response to becoming registered as an Authorised Nominating Authority (ANA) under the Building and Construction Industry Payments Act, which came into effect on 1st October 2004. The RICS DRS now operates as a nominating authority in Queensland, New South Wales, and Western Australia.
The RICS DRS aims to establish the most experienced panel of construction industry experts to adjudicate in construction disputes. The RICS DRS is actively supporting the adjudication process in other Australian states. The RICS DRS also offers other methods of dispute resolution services such as expert determination, expert witness as well as mediation and arbitration.

Our Objectives
The RICS DRS supports the following objectives.
- To support the adjudication process of resolving payment disputes in a fair but rapid manner.
- To promote, encourage and facilitate the practice of the settlement of disputes with alternative dispute resolution methods.
- To specialise in resolving disputes in areas relating to land, property and construction.
- To act in the public interest by facilitating efficient dispute resolution.
- To become the authoritative advisory body with regards to alternative dispute resolution within the Oceania region.
